the pink house

This was an existing home built in the 1930’s. The alterations to this house has resulted in a distinctive and original residential home for owners who have incorporated their ideas from journeys abroad. They have intentionally infused the spaces with their personality, this is evident when entering the home.

The style is everything but minimalist as this home reshuffles all the rules, mixing and matching old and new, east and west. Eclectic objects fill the spaces adding depth and vibrance that are unique and striking to the eye. The architecture was enhanced by bringing out the best of the original historical style and the choice in the exterior paint colour makes it more special. The dining room is fun, in its grape backdrop with a beautiful array of unusual mirrors collected over the years.

The formal lounge has beautiful bold colours and textures in the furniture pieces, while the walls are sombre, due to the dark stained solid wood panels wrapped around the room. The joinery was uniquely designed for each room and handcrafted by master artesans, Every space has its own special attention to detail. The staircase balustrade is an excellent example of high quality craftsmanship . Its middle eastern style lattice screen panels are beautifully framed by solid wood stanchions and handrail.

The secret cloakroom next to the lounge has a sassy striped wallpaper making its presence known. The house is cleverly placed on an elongated erf, boasting a beautiful and dramatic garden. The view from the kitchen is spectacular.

The spatial design and joinery design for this kitchen was carefully planned, to create a gathering place that feels warm and welcoming. Rustic granite cobbles reminiscent of pedestrian lanes in Europe gracefully line the front courtyard and main entrance. This home is a vibrant, bold, classical vintage expression.
